"Lo,
the noble oak of the forest with his feet in the flowers and grass,
How the winds that bear the summer o'er its topmost branches pass,
And the wood-deer dwell beneath it, and the fowl in its fair twigs sing,
And there it stands in the forest, an exceedingly glorious thing"
William Morris
Oak - this "exceedingly glorious thing" has beeen turned into high quality buildings for centuries. Since medieaval times the wealth of house owners has been represented and displayed by the use of oak timber on their buildings, not only in a structural but also in a decorative manner (closely spaced timber, carvings and mouldings). Because of the durability of oak, after hundreds of years we are still able to appreciate these splendid buildings. Also hundreds of years later craftsmen are making new buildings in much the same traditional way, ocassionally altering the style to suit our modern living requirements.
Adam Heath - Carpenter specialises in building oak houses with decorative
elements such as mouldings or carvings. Traditionally, the status of the
owners or benefactors of a particular building was reflected in the designs
of the mediaeval craftsmen. We continue this tradition - we turn a new
house into home by adding hand made decorative and often personalised
elements. We would like to invite you to our project's gallery (links above) to show you how traditional, styles and methods work for us in the 21st century.
